Moms and Dads are Amazing!
They work hard.
They love their kids.
They want their kids to excel at things they enjoy and are interested in.
They see their kids as special, and they want everyone else to see their kids as special.
Because their kids are special.
And moms and dads want their kids to grow up to become not just special but also exceptional.
That is one reason I wrote Land That I Love.

Kids Are Also Amazing
A few kids are born exceptional. Isaac Newton was, Wolfgang Mozart was, Little Stevie Wonder was, Hedy Lamarr was, and so was Winifred Sackville Stoner Jr.
Most kids are born what we call normal, average, talented, intelligent, good at some things and not-so-good at others. That’s because we are all human.
Some kids are born with a silver spoon in their mouths and some with a wooden spoon like me.
Are Your Kids’ Exceptional Futures Out There?
Yes!
Now here’s the thing; anyone, and everyone, can grow up to be exceptional in some way. Very few of us are born with amazing talent for math, music, or language, but so many of us become exceptional in ways that suit us.
We can become so exceptional we go down in history, just like Henry Ford and Sally Ride did. Or we can become exceptional in smaller ways that impact our family, our neighbors, and our local community.
Henry Ford and Sally Ride Have a Lot to Thank Their Parents For (as Do I)
Henry Ford’s dad was an Irish immigrant who farmed the land.
Henry Ford’s mom was just that; she was a mom.
As his mom, she instilled in Henry the importance of good order and cleanliness.
And look what that led to!
Mass production is totally dependent on good order. Conveyors must deliver the right part or the right partly-assembled piece to the next worker at the right time. The worker must then complete that part of production correctly and on time, so it gets conveyed to the next worker.
Clean manufacturing plants mean machinery works more efficiently and there’s less downtime.
On-time and efficient production deliver greater business success.
So what began as a mom insisting on good order and cleanliness in the home became essential elements of the manufacturing process and the Ford empire.
Yes, moms are amazing!
Henry’s mom also taught him to read before he went to school.
She was such a powerful influence in his life, he said that, after she had passed away, the home was like a watch without a mainspring.
Sally Ride’s mom was a volunteer counselor at a woman’s correctional facility.
Sally Ride’s dad was a college lecturer.
They encouraged Sally and her sister to study hard, to follow their interests, and to advance at their own pace. They made sure their kids were happy, felt loved, and they encouraged them to believe they could do whatever they wanted to do.
Sally was interested in science and sport. Sally also learned that helping others was important; her mom founded the Mary Magdelene Project.
Sally went on to become the first American woman astronaut.
Encouraged to study, encouraged to follow her interests, encouraged to believe in herself, and learning how to help others.
Put them all together, and Sally Ride became the first female American astronaut.
Moms and Dads Matter!
So, here we have two sets of parents that no one thinks about who had two kids that everyone thinks about.
Just like my mom and dad. My dad left school at 11, and my mom left at 14. All the spare money went on books. Reading helped me, my brother and my sister to think, plan, and do. Our parents bought books such as How Much Do You Know? The World’s Greatest Wonders, and The Mind in Healing. The list goes on.
I went on to start my own business, we pioneered distance learning processes, helped to migrate Olympic coaching strategies into business performance strategies, and I have written several books and best-selling training programs.
